About the Author

Peter W.G. Morris is Professor and Head of the School of Construction and Project Management at University College London (UCL). He is the author of over 110 papers and several books on the management of projects. A previous Chairman of the Association for Project Management, he was awarded the Project Management Institute's 2005 Research Achievement Award, IPMA's 2009 Research Award, and APM's 2008 Sir Monty Finniston Life-Time Achievement Award.


Jeffrey K. Pinto holds the Andrew Morrow and Elizabeth Lee Black Chair in the Management of Technology at Penn State University. He is the author or editor of 23 books and over 120 scientific papers. Dr. Pinto is a two-time recipient of the Distinguished Contribution Award from the Project Management Institute (1997, 2001) for outstanding service to the project management profession. He received PMI's Research Achievement Award in 2009.


Jonas Soderlund is Professor at BI Norwegian School of Management and responsible for its executive education within the area of project management. He is a founding member of the KITE Research Group (Knowledge Integration and Innovation in Transnational Enterprise) based at Linkoping University. He has researched and published widely on the management and organization of projects and project-based firms and the evolution of project competence.

Necessary Yet Dreary

While a must-read, Yost's writing is dense and difficult. This reviewer has a Ph.D. in French and is therefore not unused to reading arcane and obscure texts. The information could be presented in a much more straight forward style. However, given the fact that audiology programs have a high weed-out component, this could be why this textbook has survived as a leading basic textbook. The skillful reader will be able to appreciate what an exciting discipline audiology can be. It will only be the determined, expert reader who will be able to use the text well. Advice to the young person who is faced with this book: hang in there--yes, it is difficult to read, and no, you should not write this way if it ever becomes your turn to write a textbook!

and not useful for the class

I bought this for my Hearing Science class. It was required for a "different perspective". Honestly... I looked in it a few times. But the language and substance coverage in the book was way over many of my peers, including myself, and not useful for the class. If you like a technical book filled with tons of information and like a dry read... go for it. But I did not enjoy reading any part of it. Very hard to follow and not easy to read.

Rose Galbraith

What a blessing to read a book that encourages a life pure in thought, word and deed. This book is deserving of a 5 Star rating because it is more than a Christian romance. People were created with a purpose - fellowship with a Creator. The young people were faced with promising lives, encountered challenges, and had to set lifestyle priorities in this story. They had to determine whether or not to change their allegiance to self-gratification. Self-gratification does not always lend itself to long-term happiness. This book places a bright spotlight on the consequences of choices. I also find that this book shows how important it is to be patient and wait on God's timing.

I have been reading Grace Livingston Hill books for over 50 years and I have never found one that did not inspire me.

A Sweet Reminder

I have never been disappointed when reading a book by Grace Livingston Hill; there's always a lesson to be shared that is uplifting to my soul. This book is a perfect reminder of how very much God loves us and takes care of us every minute of the day...and how His plans for our lives are so much better when we learn to trust in Him completely. Most of us trudge along in life trying to make the best out of life instead of allowing God to make us the best in our lives. Grace' s characters always help me to be more aware of my own relationship with God, and how I can improve myself.

Inspiration and romance

Beautiful story of a young girl who is leaving her home to visit her only relatives in Scotland, the plan was for her and her mother to make the trip but her mother passed away before that could happen. Rose Gailbraith boards the ship alone, among the hundreds of revelers who are celebrating the joy of the voyage, when she decides to watch the ship leave port, she bumps into a friend from schoo, Gordon McCarroll l who is on board to deliver papers to a client. Gordon is surprised and delighted to see Rose Gailbraith again, he realizes how nice she was and wonders why he wasn't friendlier to her when they were in class together. Impulsively he kisses her goodbye and then sends a gift to her stateroom. Rose is stunned and thinks how wonderful he is to brighten her life in such a wonderful way.

Of course there are good and bad people along the way and her mother's relatives seem to want her to marry the son of the man her mother ran away from but all things work well when left in the Father's hands.

Grace Livingston Hill's romances are virtually timeless in their meaning and lessons. Always a good read.

CHRISTOPH B. This book is written b Philipp G. Rosengarten and Christoph B. Stuermer. Both are Automotive Anayyst at the Global Insight Automotive Group. What that means is that they know all there is to know abut cars and also the Automotive Industry. This book deals with the four major German car brands: Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Porsche, and Audi. The book mainly talks about their history, how they managed to get to where they are today, and they also mention some of their marketing strategies. These premium car brands are continuously setting the bar higher and higher and they are the envy of the industry. The authors deeply analyze the secret to their success. One example of how they compare the cars to something else for us to understand is how they compare BMW to Callaway. They mention how Callaway has become one of the world's best golfing equipment after they started expanding from woods to irons and even golf-balls. The similarities between BMW and Callaway are that both expanded from one thing. BMW started with motorcycles then they went on to making cars.

What makes this book interesting is how well organized everything is, making this book extremely easy to read and understand. The book explains step by step how each of these companies became the success that they are today. Various examples are also used to compare and explain some of the many concepts used in this book. For example Nike and their Nike air. Nike had a great success with "Nike Air" but they still managed to change into the "Nike Shox" and still be successful. Just like the cars talked about in the book they are always successful with every new invention. This is a single example from the book, but there are many others. The authors writing keeps you reading from page to page since they make their writing entertaining. Another reason why this book is so easy to read is because that authors use terms that anyone with some knowledge of economics can understand, since this book does talk a whole lot about economic. I personally know that the economics mentioned in this book are very precise. One example is the supply and demand. They explain how the car industry measures the demand in order to get the most profit by supplying the right amount of cars. I extremely recommend this book to anyone who loves cars or economics. After reading this book I felt like I learned a lot about strategizing and managing business. I also recommend this book to the people who are very curious to how these amazing car brands achieved success. This book made appreciate even more these tremendous brands.

This book is a great introduction to the obsessiveness of the German automobile companies and offers great insight into their dominance of the luxury segment.
The marketing segmentation is interesting as well - takes the usual methods and makes them auto-specific.
Some lack of objectivity perhaps, but overall, worth it for anyone interested in cars.

Dr. Gurpreet Dhillon is Professor of Information Systems in the School of Business, Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, USA. He holds a Ph.D. from the London School of Economics and Political Science, UK. His research interests include management of information security, ethical and legal implications of information technology. His research has been published in several journals including Journal of Management Information Systems, Information Systems Research, Decision Support Systems, European Journal of Information Systems, Information Systems Journal Information & Management, Communications of the ACM, Computers & Security, and International Journal of Information Management among others. Gurpreet has authored seven books including Principles of Information Systems Security: text and cases (John Wiley, 2007). He is also the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Information System Security. Gurpreet's research has been featured in various academic and commercial publications and his expert comments have appeared in the Knowledge@Wharton, New York Times, USA Today, Business Week, NBC News, among others. In 2013 Gurpreet published his first poetry book - The Inner Truth.

Demystifies Digital Computer Internals. Simply. Clearly.

After hearing about digital computers while in high school (this was mid 80s), I was extremely curious about understanding how these so called 'computers' work. The idea that they can make decisions, remember things etc. was simply fascinating. General popular science articles weren't clear enough to give the complete picture.

I was lucky to find a copy of this book in my school library. I took home this book, and simply read the book through the night. and what an experience it was!.

It builds on absolutely fundamental concepts, logical components, simple logic gates, the mysterious flip-flop, the universal gate, the ROM, and then on to the stored program computer.. the register, program counter, Arithmetic, Logic Unit, The Instruction Decoder. my..my. In such simple terms. and then on to,in fact, build a commercial microprocessor of the age, step by step.

One of those rare , simple elegant books, that can get you started and then hook us on to the subject.

Absolutely relevent today as well. since we still fundamentally use the same architecture, believe it or not.

Excellent Book On Bits, Bytes, Binary, Gates and Logic Design

Malvino has a way with words and manages to simplify many aspects of low level digital electronics. I'm about half-way through the book and already cherish it for its very thorough explanations, starting from the simplest aspects (bits) and working towards more sophisticated elements of circuit design (truth tables with Karnaugh Maps). Along the way you'll take in many lessons on Boolean algebra and simplification techniques (don't let this scare you away - it's really not bad at all).

While the book is definitely old, it's still very relevant, even with all of the improvements to computers over the last few decades. About the only possible complaint I could have at this point in the book is that some of the chapter review questions seem a bit tedious, particularly since we only have half the answers in the back so it's questionable whether those problems are worth doing since you can't confirm whether you correctly understand the material. That aside, there's lots of questions (with answers) along the way within the actual chapter content, so you still have lots of chances to confirm your understanding.

Bottom line, the book is a classic, the writing style is very easy to read, the quality of what it conveys is all-encompassing, and you'd be hard-pressed to find anything better on the subject. A must have for your electronics library.

Great material and ideas... needs a little fine tuning in later editions

This is a very pricey book for an MBA course of mine. It's got great concepts and a very quantitative method for evaluating marketing, which is great because when marketing programs are the first to get cut in the budget, it's nice to have proof of how effective they are. The author also has a compatible website with additional tools for marketing.

Still, I think that the book is really dense with not enough real-world examples. Also, the graphs alluded to on one page are found on a different page, which makes it difficult to follow along (sometimes graphs are in the future, and others they have already been shown).

His methods are great in theory, but a lot of them would be impossible to configure in real life. For example, when does anyone truly know the true market attractiveness score? It's an estimate, at best. Great start, though. I hope that the 6th edition is a little better organized...

About the Author
American-born Linda Hoffman moved to Indonesia in 1989, whereupon she immediately strapped on a backpack and began exploring. Bali, the Ultimate Guide 2012

I have never seen such a complete guide book. Usually when there are pretty pictures the detail parts on how and where to do things are lacking. Not the case here. And the map pages: They show street names, hotels, markets, restaurants, dive centers, medical clinics, temples, and other attractions ALL ON ONE MAP. You do not have to flip pages back and forth to figure out if the restaurant is located next to the hotel. In addition, there is a separate fold-out large scale map so you can see for yourself whether you should turn right or left in a congested area. As for history and culture and travel advice, I'm not sure there is any topic not covered in this guide book. When I go to Bali, I will take only this book, not 3 or 4 different ones like I usually do when I travel. Diane Camp

Yes! This IS the Ultimate Guide to Bali

As someone who's been to Bali many times I can say this book is a must-have whether it's your first trip or your 50th. From the insider details written on history, culture, food and art, to religion, geography and everything in between, the book satisfies those who love to really learn about places they visit. Couple that background with a wealth of detailed information on all the obvious things a travel book should tell you like where to stay and dine at different price levels, what to do in the area, including things off the beaten path, where to shop and so on and the book is worth every cent. Yet many books will give you this information and still not be the best choice.

What makes this book so great in my view is the ease of use. The island is divided up into sections and all the information for that area is not only easy to find, the beautifully printed photos entice you to visit places you might not have considered.

Yet even more important to my map geek heart are the intricate, detailed maps spread throughout the entire book. These are full color maps of regions as well as smaller areas like the popular Ubud or beaches. Hotels, restaurants, tourist destinations are all clearly marked and the map is placed right in that section of the book. No need to flip back and forth trying to figure out where you're heading. In addition the book includes a beautiful pull out map of the whole island with a pocket in the back cover so it stays all together nicely. A fantastic addition to the book.

Ms. Hoffman's many years both as a traveler throughout Indonesia and as a travel writer are evident on every page. She revised and wrote you the book she wished she'd had to guide her around the island. I've truly not encountered a better guide to Bali before and I've seen many of them. I don't believe you'll be disappointed.
