“The depth of our love was immeasurable

“The depth of our love was immeasurable. It was the kind of love that stories were built on. The kind that, if bottled, would solve world peace, cure disease, and most likely overpopulate the earth.”

What an amazing follow up to Wait For Me. Stay With Me picks up right where the last book left off. Cooper and Briley are finally together and are enjoying their new relationship status. However, when a part of Briley’s past comes to light, it will take Cooper and Briley on a journey that no one expected. Will the love the two of them have be strong enough to get them past the dangerous road that lies ahead?

All I can say right now is just WOW! I am blown away! Stay With Me was such an amazing read. I was hooked from the first page and found myself consumed with Cooper and Briley. The love that they had for each other was real and strong. It captivated me. I admired their strength and devotion; the way they supported and protected one another. I felt such a connection to them. I couldn’t get enough of their story. I didn’t want to put this book down.

Stay With Me was not only a great romance, but it also had it’s fair share of twists and turns. And let me tell you, these twists…..I am just floored. This book went into a totally different direction than what I was expecting. I was so surprised and I kept thinking to myself: I did not see this coming. I would have never guessed this would be happening in a million years. It had me holding my breath just waiting to see how everything would play out. And in the end, I thought to myself: Bravo! Well done!

I loved every second of this story from start to finish. Stay With Me gave me the best possible ending to this series. It took me on one heck of an emotional journey. I laughed, held my breath, had tears brought to my eyes and I swooned all at the same time. These characters are amazing and their story will capture your heart, just like it did mine.

I love this book, so much!

Okay, Wait for Me is the first book in the series. If you have read the first book in this series, you have to read the second (Stay With Me). If you haven't read either, you should really get on that! In Wait for Me, we met Briley and Cooper. They have always been best friends since they were little kids. Cooper goes away to prison and when he gets out all of their feelings for each other finally come to light.

Going into Stay With Me I thought this book would be about their happily ever after since they finally come together at the end of Wait for Me. Only the story was so much more than what I expected. Of course Briley and Cooper's life can't always be butterflies and unicorns. Briley's past holds a secret that has been kept from her to keep her safe. Briley can't ignore the feeling that something is not right. Cooper, the protector that he is, investigates and discovers dangerous information...

Stay With Me kept me on the edge of my seat. I did not want to put it down. There were so many twists and turns I didn't see coming. I love this author, her writing style, and this couple. Sequels are hard live up to the quality of the first book and, in my opinion, Stay with Me surpassed Wait for Me. Stay with Me is my favorite book of the series, but Wait for Me has my favorite cover. Cooper is still my favorite book boyfriend

A classic of the field

Easterbrook and Fischel collected a series of law review articles into the classic text on the contractarian theory of corporate law. During the 1980s, E&F were two of the corporate law academy's enfants terribles. Their articles were provocative, yet insightful. They raised a lot of hackles, yet did ground-breaking work. Both E&F have gone on to bigger and better things. Easterbrook is now a judge on the US 7th Circuit. Fischel is dean of the UChicago law school. "The Economic Structure ..." stands as their legacy for corporate law.
Like other contractarians, E&F model the firm not as an entity, but as an aggregate of various inputs acting together to produce goods or services. Employees provide labor. Creditors provide debt capital. Shareholders initially provide equity capital and subsequently bear the risk of losses and monitor the performance of management. Management monitors the performance of employees and coordinates the activities of all the firm's inputs. The firm is simply a legal fiction representing the complex set of contractual relationships between these inputs. In other words, the firm is not a thing, but rather a nexus or web of explicit and implicit contracts establishing rights and obligations among the various inputs making up the firm.
The nexus of contracts model has important implications for a range of corporate law topics, the most obvious of which is the debate over the proper role of mandatory legal rules. As a positive matter, contractarians contend that corporate law in fact is generally comprised of default rules, from which the parties to the set of contracts making up the corporation are free to depart, rather than mandatory rules. As a normative matter, contractarians argue that this is just as it should be. E&F devote the bulk of this text to tweaking out these implications across an array of important topics, such as limited liability and insider trading.
Their analysis is not flawless. As but a single example, E&F consistently opt for the so-called majoritarian default. Their basic thesis is that by providing the rule to which the parties would agree if they could bargain, society facilitates private ordering. Majoritarian defaults are not always desirable, however, even if a potentially dominant one can be identified. Sometimes penalty defaults are preferable. Penalty defaults are designed to impose a penalty on at least one of the parties if they fail to bargain out of the default rule, thereby giving at least the party subject to the penalty an incentive to negotiate a contractual alternative to the penalty default. They force the parties to choose affirmatively the contract provision they prefer. Penalty defaults are appropriate where it is costly for courts to determine what the parties would have wanted. In such cases, it may be more efficient for the parties to negotiate a term ex ante than for courts to determine ex post what the parties would have wanted.
Having said that, however, this remains one of the most significant monographs on corporate law. I highly recommend it for an corporate lawyer's bookshelf.

If you want heavier economic analysis, this book is lacking, but if you want *structure* and *framework* then this book is ideal.

This book attempts to show that corporate law exists in the form that it does because its underlying purpose is to maximize wealth. The role of corporate law, in Easterbrook and Fischel's view, is to supply the rules that investors, managers, and others involved in a corporate enterprise would select if the writing and enforcement of contracts were costless. The book covers a wide range of topics with major emphases in corporate control and the information aspects of the securities laws. Each chapter of the book contains a description of the law governing a particular subject and then an analysis of how that law is or is not consistent with wealth maximization. A member of the economics profession who is well-versed in the economics of the topics covered in the book is likely to find its most useful parts to be its descriptions of the law on the topics it covers. Those descriptions are very clear. Furthermore, the book provides references to both cases and statutes for the reader who wishes to look more deeply into any particular subject.

In the first chapter the foundation for much of the rest of the book is laid as Easterbrook and Fischel set forth their view of the corporation as a set of contracts between the various concerned parties. The role that is played by state corporate law as the supplier of the contractual terms the parties would have bargained for, if such bargaining were costless, is elucidated. In ch. 2, legal and economic aspects of limited liability are discussed. A particular focus is the moral hazard created by the limited liability of corporations. Shareholder voting is the subject of ch. 3, which provides a quite thorough and useful description of the federal and state law on that subject (as of the early 1990s). In ch. 4, the focus is on the meaning and purpose of the manager's fiduciary duties. Shareholder derivative suits and their consequences are discussed, as is the "business judgment rule" that the courts often apply in suits brought against managers. Chapters 5-8 all deal with various corporate control issues. The analysis in those chapters stems from the premise that since takeovers create wealth, they should proceed without hindrance. Among the major topics covered in those chapters are tender offers, the appraisal rights of minority shareholders who are the subject of a freeze-out, and state and federal attempts to regulate takeovers. The focus of ch. 9 is the closely held corporation and the legal background in which such companies operate. Topics covered in some detail in that chapter include the problems and legal rights of minority shareholders in such corporations. In the final three chapters, Easterbrook and Fischel deal with information issues. The relationship between insiders' trading and their fiduciary duties is the focus of ch. 10. The authors attempt to identify property rights in information and determine whether shareholders are made better off by insider trading restrictions. The chapter includes a useful description of the state and federal law governing trading by insiders. In ch. 11, the disclosure requirements of the securities laws are discussed. An issue that is explored through much of the chapter is why the disclosure laws exist. In the final chapter, the legal remedies applied in securities cases are analyzed in an effort to show their economic rationality.

Who should read "The Economic Structure of Corporate Law"? Well, in the first place, I recommend it to any member of the finance profession who has an interest in the effects of corporate law on issues in finance. Those who know neither the law nor the economics will probably find it over their heads. Those who know both the law and the economics will probably find it uninteresting but perhaps worthwhile for reference. Those who have a working knowledge of corporate law and an interest in learning more about economics and those who know the economics and have an interest in learning more about corporate law are probably the most likely to find the book a good read.

Setting Education on Genuine Philosophical Foundations

Steven Cahn, one of the world's best known anthologizers of philosophical writing, has brought forth a remarkable collection on the philosophy of education. Better known, perhaps, for his anthologies in moral and political philosophy and other areas of general philosophy, he is also, arguably, the single, most important anthologizer in the field of philosophy of education. He has been doing philosophy of education anthology editing since the 1970s, when his original The Foundations of Education hit the scene. Making quite a splash, it was superseded by his Classic and Contemporary Readings in the Philosophy of Education, to the new, second edition of which the present review is devoted.

The original Classic and Contemporary Readings was a major breakthrough in its own right. It in effect defined the essential contours of philosophy of education as an academic discipline, putting it on the philosophy map, so to say. It divided the corpus of literature into two subdivisions, classic and contemporary, and went on to flesh them out with some highly judiciously chosen selections. Most notable among the classic selections were Plato's Republic, Rousseau's Emile, A.N. Whitehead's The Aims of Education, and Dewey's Democracy and Education. Yes, the latter two were also classified as classics! On the contemporary side, the classification was further subdivided into three subcategories: schools, teaching, and curriculum. And the selections were really great and meaningful.

Under School, you had, for example, Any Gutmann's Democratic Education and Israel Scheffler's seminal paper "Moral Education and the Democratic Ideal." Obviously, Gutmann's Democratic Education wasn't reproduced in its entirety: it is a 300 page book - so how could it be!? But the selection did feature the whole of the book's first chapter, which is a substantive discussion in its own right and, at the same time, very revealing of the core essence of the larger view taken in the Gutmann book. Another thing about the selection of these two pieces is that they neatly complement one another. Scheffler's is the chronologically earlier of the two, and Gutmann's thinking was largely influenced by it - something duly acknowledged in footnotes to her opus. But beyond the School heading, the Teaching and Curriculum headings also featured some very notable selections.

Under the former, you had, for example, Jacques Maritain's forays into Thomistic education, Paulo Freire's ventures into what has come to be called critical pedagogy, and Nel Nodding's feministically oriented muses on teaching, with its ubiquitous stress on caring. Under the latter were included, among others, Jane Martin's critique of a-feministic philosophy of education, Richard Rorty's postmodernistic approach (a real eye-opener!), and John Searle's objectivity based rejoinder. All in all, the book represented what was real and difference-making in ongoing philosophy of education.

Underlying the whole approach taken was a two-pronged principle. Prong one: students are best introduced to philosophy of education through direct acquaintance with samples from the literature. Historical or biographical overviews fall short. This contention already has, I should think, a lot going for it. Prong two: brief excerpts don't do the trick. To become intimate with the thought processes of a great thinker you want to dig deep and get a feel for where he or she is coming from and where he or she is headed. And unless you sample generously apportioned expanses of the thinker's writing, you are hopelessly shortchanged. In this respect, the Classic and Contemporary Readings anthology stood out: it thoughtfully carved out large swaths of material for the reader to engage with and absorb.

Now this was all fine and well as far as it went. But now a couple of problems had to be faced. a) What to do for a teacher of philosophy of education who wanted to devote an entire semester's course to classical sources, to the exclusion of contemporary ones, but also wanted to provide some contemporary perspective anchored to the classical sources themselves? b) What to do for the teacher of philosophy of education who wanted to see the contemporary coverage brought up to date and pay homage to new tendencies in educational reform, such as home schooling, use of vouchers, and having recourse to other mechanisms designed to enhance the scope of parental choice in the matter of a child's schooling? Cahn responded to both these challenges.

To the first, he responded by putting together a new collection whose coverage is confined to classical sources but whose modus operandi is to append to each classic selection an originally written piece by a scholar of contemporary or recent vintage, recognized as an expert in regard to the classical figure in question. This response is grist for the mill of another book review, not the present one. The response to the second challenge though has been to revise the originally crafted Classic and Contemporary Readings in the Philosophy of Education - the volume under review - so that it includes selections bearing not only on items pertaining to educational reform but, as well, modes of thought that have only more recently entered the portals of sustained study in philosophy of education: multiculturalism, postmodernism, critical theory, feminism, cosmopolitanism, etc. In addition, a wholly useful introductory overview has, for the first time, been graciously provided. The result is a work not beyond recognition but answering to a higher principle nonetheless. It cannot be recommended too strongly.

He is the author of the Video Production Handbook, Television Production, and Television Sports Production and has had over thirty articles published in television and broadcast magazines in the United States and Europe. Owens is Dean of the School of Communication Arts at Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky, where he has taught since 1981.

Excellent material bar none

This is an excellent piece of literature well worth the price. This book is a very excellent read that keeps your attention throughout its pages, it covers a vast amount of information on developing resolute thinking skills, and furthering ones fencing skills when having discourse. The book is also just as firm and sound with the development of writing skills, and though this rating is not my best writing; please do not let get past you as this book is an excellent, excellent purchase. You will not go wrong in owning a copy. If for no other reason this piece of literature would make an excellent gift to give to someone; whom faces challenges in any of these areas. Note: I try to face my challenges head on, and so needless to say the book is aiding me in many areas. Hope that this information will be as helpful for you as it has been for me, be well.
